The Pinot Gris Rosenberg 2022 from Domaine Barmès-Buecher is a standout expression of the Alsatian terroir, crafted with the estate’s signature biodynamic precision. Sourced from the clay-limestone soils of the Rosenberg vineyard—an east-facing site at 250 meters altitude with vines averaging 30 years of age—this wine is a testament to patient, intentional winemaking. The 2022 vintage underwent a slow fermentation over nearly two years and spent 18 months aging on its lees in large foudres before bottling in March 2024. This extended élevage gives the wine depth and complexity, while maintaining freshness and vibrancy at 13.5% alcohol.
On the nose, the wine offers expressive aromas of ripe stone fruit, white flowers, and freshly cut button mushrooms. The palate unfolds with a creamy texture and layers of wild mint, sweet herbs, clementine, and briny grapefruit zest. A crisp acidity brings tension and lift, while subtle bitterness and a saline finish add refinement. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 90 points, highlighting unique notes like oolong tea, dandelion, and white pepper on the finish. This Pinot Gris pairs beautifully with roast poultry, creamy mushroom dishes, soft cheeses like Brie or Munster, or even a savory butternut squash risotto—making it a versatile addition to both refined and rustic tables.
