Our August Curio Club pick is the complex and rich 2023 Granville Basalt Pinot Noir, a compelling expression from the Willamette Valley, crafted by second-generation growers Ayla and Jackson Holstein in Dundee, Oregon. This wine is sourced from organically farmed vineyards perched over rich volcanic basalt soils in both Eola-Amity Hills and Dundee Hills AVAs—an intentional terroir focus that inspired the “Basalt” name.
Color: Deep, clear garnet.
Nose: Bouquet of smoldering stone and peat-moss aromas, interwoven with tart cranberry and subtle dark berry notes.
On the palate: Crisp cranberry flavors and darker red-fruit depth. The fine mineral mouthfeel and integrated spice from restrained oak aging contribute to a long, refined finish.
Pairs perfect alongside duck with cherry glaze, mushroom risotto, or herb-roasted chicken.
