Portugal’s wine culture is built on an extraordinary diversity of native grapes, historic regions, and deeply rooted traditions. This month’s Passport Club explores two sides of Portuguese wine through a fresh, elegant red from the mountainous Dão and a vibrant coastal white from Lisboa.
M.O.B. Lote 3 Tinto comes from vineyards near Portugal’s Serra da Estrela mountain range, where high elevations, cool nights, and poor granite soils help produce wines with freshness, structure, and refined mineral character. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, and Jaen, it combines the understated elegance of traditional Dão with the polish and fruit of modern winemaking.
Quinta de Chocapalha Arinto Branco offers a bright contrast. Grown northwest of Lisbon, Arinto is prized for its naturally lively acidity and ability to retain freshness in Portugal’s warm climate. Fermentation at a cool temperature and aging on the lees give the wine added texture while preserving its citrus-driven character.
Together, these wines reveal a Portugal defined not by a single style, but by balance, freshness, and a remarkable collection of indigenous grapes. One is softly structured and savory, the other crisp and energetic, yet both offer an authentic expression of the places they come from.
Club members can sample all four bottle club selections and pick up their wines at the pick up event on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 or at Curio for the remainder of August.
